Fishing in Bimini

Bimini is a renowned sportfishing destination for a wide variety of species, with excellent year-round fishing for bonefish and grouper, and seasonal opportunities for billfish, tuna, and wahoo. You can experience deep-sea, reef, and flats fishing, with summer being ideal for marlin, dolphin, and permit, and winter favored for mackerel and wahoo. Bimini offers many fishing charters, marinas, and bait shops to support anglers and requires a permit for non-Bahamian citizens fishing on non-Bahamian vessels.

Many people come to Bimini just to fish, it is such a good spot to do so! Ernest Hemingway, the famous American author, fished extensively in Bimini in the mid-1930s, staying at the Compleat Angler Hotel and using his boat, the Pilar, to troll for big game fish like marlin, tuna, and swordfish in the Gulf Stream. His experiences there contributed to his writing, including the posthumous novel Islands in the Stream, and he helped establish Bimini as a world-class big-game fishing destination, even playing a role in the early formation of the International Game Fish Association (IGFA)
